ISO
9001:2000 REGISTRATION ON TRACK
Majestic
Metals is nearing completion of a year long goal of becoming
one of the first precision sheetmetal manufacturers along the
front range to be awarded ISO9001:2000 registration. The ISO
9000 series of standards are globally recognized guidelines
for the design and implementation of Quality Assurance systems
in the manufacturing and service industries.
"In
the 23 years in business, Majestic Metals has always placed
quality and delivery foremost in it's strategies for achieving
customer satisfaction" noted Dave Roberts, Manufacturing
Vice President. "The bulk of the effort was put into streamlining
the various existing procedures and forms to more easily tie
in with each element of the new standard" said Roberts.
"From
a marketing and sales standpoint, registration to the new standard
will demonstrate the continued commitment by Majestic Metals
to provide unequaled products and services. Our current customers
know our quality and delivery record but as we explore new opportunities,
potential customers can immediately have confidence knowing
we have achieved compliance to the internationally accepted
ISO standards" added Chip Roberts, Sales and Marketing
Vice President.
The project
began in January with the unanimous decision by management to
commit whatever resources were needed to accomplish registration
by the end of the year. In February, to assist with the registration
process, the company contracted with Cavendish Scott, a well
establish quality and environmental consulting firm. "Maintaining
current quality activities, continuing to focus on customer
needs and implementing the new ISO documentation on our own
would have been overwhelming" commented David Strouse,
Total Quality Director.
"When
I looked at Majestic I saw a well organized and operated business
that would be easy to take through the ISO 9001:2000 registration
process. Everything was clean and tidy and under sensible levels
of control. Our challenge would be to craft a quality system
that enabled them the freedom to continue to operate so effectively
while helping to build in an even stronger culture for quality
and customer satisfaction and yet make it easy to maintain"
said Colin Gray of Cavendish Scott. Information concerning quality
systems may be obtained by visiting Cavendish Scott's website
at www.cavendishscott.com.
On-going ISO related activities including employee education,
supervisory level involvement and internal auditing will fill
the remainder of the calendar year. The final document review
by Cavendish Scott has been completed as well as a complete
quality system evaluation by senior management. The registration
assessment audit by Platinum Registration, Inc. and a decision
on certification is scheduled for December 16 and 17.
